A learning experience for facilitators and leaders
Newnham College, Cambridge
Thursday & Friday
15th & 16th April 2027
an experiential workshop for facilitators and leaders
In a world running at speed, the ability to work with other human beings becomes all the more powerful and challenging.
We’ll spend two days exploring ways to bring more presence, spontaneity and playfulness working with groups. There’ll be a rich mix of activities, including some inspired from the world of theatre.
Guiding principles...
1 training not as usual
There is no manual or set agenda, no boring presentations. What happens is a response to what is happening in the group.
2 pulsation
We’ll explore knowing when to step forward, and when to step back and let the group do the work.
3 practice eats theory for breakfast
Anyone can run a process, but how we do it can count more than the specifics of a technique
4 working with what emerges
Activities drawn from theatre and other group work traditions help to focus on the subtle gestures that make up your performance.
5 being playful
We play, metaphorically and figuratively – with ideas and processes. We learn about, and from, being playful – even with serious topics.
6 learning together
A big part of what makes this workshop work is the learning that happens between participants
7 it's not about making it easy
We’ll explore and experience the art of being comfortable with discomfort. and playing with ways to hold difficult conversations.
8 being unhurried
Setting the right pace is the secret sauce of working in teams
participant feedback...
“Many thanks Johnnie; the most brilliant two days
Thank you for all the thought, care and preparation that went into making it so worthwhile. The venue was just right as was the weather (and say no more about the panna cotta) and I imagine you worked hard to make everything look easy. Or maybe it is easy when you have such a wealth of experience
So much to ponder & process over coming weeks and months. Great people, great chat – an amazing space.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but it by far exceeded any flimsy expectations I might have had a mere 36 hours ago.”
Lucy, Cambridge, Participant in 2026
“It’s an experience more than a workshop. There’s something special about the way Johnnie works that can’t really be captured in words.”
Ruth, London, Participant 2026
“A wonderful couple of days exploring creative facilitation with Johnnie Moore
Playing, learning and noticing. I’ve found that making space to be the learner again is rarely a bad idea.
As expected, Johnnie captained a lovely little boat of improv and curiosity, and the crew who joined us made the two days a pleasure.”
Barry, London, Participant 2026
“Two days of learning from a master facilitator on how to create a collaborative environment, engaging, interesting and delivering for its objectives”
Andy, Frampton, Participant in 2025

“Our training experience with Johnnie was a game changer. The team’s idea of what effective facilitation is, got turned on its head. We walked away from two very valuable days with tools and a perspective that has changed the way we approach meetings and facilitation workshops. This was the best training session we’ve had in a long time.”— Cheryl Ader-Dunne, Executive Director of Strategy, Leopard, Denver Colorado
